With Christmas just two months away, we've been heads-down shipping improvements to SpreadCheer. The goal? Make it easier to track gifts, catch price drops, and stay organized without drowning in spreadsheets or losing your mind in group chats. Here's what's new.
Price Drop Tracking (Because Who Pays Full Price?)
Remember when you bought that LEGO set and then saw it 30% off two days later? Yeah, we've all been there. Now SpreadCheer actively tracks price changes on gifts and highlights the biggest drops.
What it does:
- Automatic price monitoring: We check Amazon prices regularly and flag when things get cheaper (or more expensive)
- Dedicated price drop page: See all the gifts with recent price cuts in one place—perfect for Black Friday hunting
- Visual indicators: Little green badges show you exactly how much you're saving and when the price changed
- Price increase alerts: Thinking about waiting? We'll show you if prices are climbing so you can grab things before they spike
Real talk: We started building this because our own team kept missing deals. Now when someone on your list wants that air fryer and it drops $40, you'll actually know about it instead of finding out on December 26th.
Three-State Gift Tracking (To Buy → Purchased → Sent)
Keeping track of what you've bought versus what's actually been shipped was getting messy. The old checkbox system didn't cut it when you had 15 gifts in various stages of "ordered but not wrapped" limbo.
How it works now:
To Buy (Blue)
Starting state. You know what you want, just haven't clicked "purchase" yet.
Purchased (Yellow)
Money's spent. Now it's sitting in a box somewhere waiting to be wrapped or shipped.
Sent (Green)
Wrapped, shipped, or already under the tree. You're done with this one.
Tap through the states right from your gift list. No more forgetting whether you actually ordered Aunt Carol's candle or just added it to cart and walked away.
Smarter Gift Search & Suggestions
Finding the right gift shouldn't feel like solving a riddle. We've rebuilt the search experience from the ground up.
What's better:
- Instant typeahead: Start typing "wireless headphones" and see suggestions before you finish the sentence
- Category filtering: Narrow down by Electronics, Toys, Books, Home & Kitchen, etc. instead of scrolling forever
- Price range filters: Set a budget and only see gifts that fit. No more temptation from $400 gadgets when you budgeted $50
- Recipient-specific search: Looking for "gifts for dad" or "toddler toys"? The search now understands context
Behind the scenes: We track what people actually add to their lists and use that to surface better suggestions. So when you search "stocking stuffers," you're seeing things real families actually want, not just random Amazon results.
Better Print Options (For the Non-Digital Folks)
Not everyone wants to check their phone while shopping. Some people (looking at you, Uncle Jim) prefer a printed list they can fold up and stick in their wallet.
Print improvements:
- Clean print layouts: No more weird page breaks in the middle of a gift name
- Print preview: See exactly what you're getting before you waste paper
- Compact mode: Fit more gifts on one page without squinting
- Optional notes: Include gift notes and ideas or hide them for a cleaner list
Hit the print button, grab your list, and head to Target. Just like the old days, except you don't have to re-type everything by hand.
Mobile Improvements (Because We're All Shopping on Our Phones)
Let's be real: most of you are using SpreadCheer on your phone while standing in line at Starbucks or hiding from your kids in the bathroom. We've made the mobile experience way smoother.
What's new:
- Bottom sheet design: Adding gifts now uses a sliding drawer instead of awkward modals that take over your screen
- Faster status changes: One tap to mark gifts as purchased or sent—no more fumbling through menus
- Better touch targets: Buttons are bigger and easier to hit, especially when you're juggling coffee and a shopping bag
- Responsive search: The gift search suggestions work perfectly on small screens now
What's Coming Next
We're not done. Here's what we're working on for the final stretch before Christmas:
- Budget tracking: See how much you've spent versus your budget without opening a calculator
- Multi-list management: Better tools for families managing separate lists for different sides of the family
- Reminder notifications: Opt-in reminders when prices drop or when you're running out of shopping time
Give It a Try
All these features are live right now. No upgrade required, no extra cost, no weird setup process. Just log in and you'll see them.
If something breaks or you have ideas for what we should build next, let us know. We actually read the feedback (and we've already shipped a bunch of suggestions from people like you). Now go catch some price drops before your brother-in-law buys out the entire LEGO aisle.
